Whether you’re planning a staff retreat, a new-hire onboarding, or a community training program— you want to offer a good experience. You’re investing time and money because you know that there is potential when we bring people together around a shared purpose. A really good training not only teaches us something new, it can push and inspire us to grow and take risks. It can connect a team over tough challenges and new ideas. It can remind us why we work at the organization in the first place.
But more often than not, training kinda sucks. It’s boring, it tries to cover too much (or too little), it exists fully separate from our actual work, or it just forgets (or ignores) the fact that learners are actual human people with lives and feelings and wisdom and experiences and a lot to do so how much longer will this be?
Training shouldn’t suck.
